Ignition Issue?

I am running a 1973 Mercruiser 120hp motor in a '22 aluminum Starcraft holiday. At WOT I top out at 30mph at 3000rpm with an average load (full tank and two passengers). I read that I should be at around 4400-4800rpm and figured it was a prop issue. Last time out there were three separate occasions where there boat wouldn't pass 15mph at around 2200rpm with the throttle wide open, other times it would run its normal 30mph. We checked the cable which was working correctly. My buddy suggested changing to electronic ignition. Any ideas? Let me know if you need anymore information, and thanks for the help!

Re: Ignition Issue?

Ayuh,... I'd start with a Full,+ Complete Tune Up,+ Service, including the fuel Filters....
Throw in a Compression Test while you're at it to see the motor's general Health...
