I recently purchased an 89 Johnson tracker set up for remote controls. Model TJ25ElCEB The ignition key wiring harness has an alarm on it (see picture) My question is does this model outboard use the alarm for anything and if not can I just disconnect it?

I'm going with temp alarm. Goes off if the water temp rises due to failed impeller or blockage. Track the wiring and see if it is connected to a temp sending unit.

That is the overheat alarm horn. Test it by unplugging the tan wire from the temperature switch (sensor) at the top of the cylinder head, and grounding the wiring harness side with the key switch "on". It should give a steady beep.
