I believe the switch or connection has a short. I would like to order a replacement or replace with a universal switch.

It is the universal kill switch where the clip holds the switch plunger IN. The other kind has a more flat looking clip that holds the switch plunger OUT.

Any boat store or online source should have both of these types.

not to mention if you pull the panel, you can read the manufacturer and part number.

you are supposed to have a short in it when it is depressed like it is. the two contacts are held together with the clip, then when you pull the clip, the contacts open, breaking the connection to the ignition on the engine.

if you think its the kill switch, simply tie the two wires together with a jumper wire. this will bypass the kill switch. that will let you know if you have the right problem part or not.
