I have no spark in the bottom plug of my 72 9.5. After inspecting the ignition points I noticed that one of them is completely closed and there is no gap. I tried to adjust it with the screw and at the farthest setting it is still touching. Anyone know what to do in this situation?

this may sound like a stupid question, but i will ask .....are you setting the points with the rubbing block at the high point on the cam? other than that, have a close look at both rubbing blocks....are they the same thickness? ie ....is the rubbing block on the set of points in question noticeably thinner than the other set?

Pardon my ignorance, I am fairly inexperienced in this area. The points look to be identical, one is just touching and the other has a gap. I am not sure what 'setting the points at high point of the cam' really means. This could be normal, I am just trying to diagnose the problem and learn along the way. Where should I start in diagnosing exactly what is wrong when there is no spark from one of the boots.

lets forget about the gap for a minute and ask what work has been done to the ignition since youve owned the motor? new coils, points, condensors, wires and boots??

Did you turn the crankshaft to check this or are you saying that one set of points was open, but the other was closed?
That is normal....one set opens 1/2 revolution after the other...there is a lobe on the crankshaft that does this.
