ignition problem

When I go to start my boat it will start with the key in starting position but as sone as i let the key go it turns off.

OK, lets try to figure out what motor you have.

Its not a 1985.

They didn't make a 90 hp in 1985-6-7-8 or 1989.

So it is either older than 1985, or newer than 1989.



So it starts, the starter disengages, and it keeps running, until you let the key return to the run position?

Sounds like the key switch is going bad???
Try the connections on the back.
Loosen and WD-40 them tighten and try.
Spray WD-40 in the key slot too.
90 started in 1990.
