I am having trouble starting my 1984 70hp, 3 cylinder Mercury outboard. Here is what I have so far...
-The choke engages just fine when I "push to choke".
-The starter starts when I jump the solenoid with a screw driver.
-Across the solenoid I have a 12.69V reading on the multimeter, when I turn the ignition key "ON" it only drops to about 12.41V.
-I have cleaned off all the terminal ends with a wire brush and tightened them all down again.
-The battery is brand new with 685CA and is fully charged
I am thinking the problem is either in the ignition cylinder (6 pole) or the solenoid. Can anyone offer me some advice on how to narrow it down between the two?
