New to us 1985 Bayliner Capri w/ 85 HP Force Motor. Looking for a good picture and diagram for wiring the proper ignition switch because what we have does not match what we can find in the manual. Any help would be appreciated.

So what do you have that doesn't match. The terminals on the switch are lettered. S = starter solenoid, M = magneto, C = choke/priimer, A = accessory (may be labeled "I" for ignition) and B= battery (12 volts from engine).

The switch currently installed has 6 terminals. A, M, B, S, and two that are not marked at all. We don't know if it ever worked as hooked up and something went bad or if it was already not working when they installed this switch...we think maybe they have the wires hooked wrong but the switch could also be bad.

So what's not working? You assume something is wrong but you are not telling us why you think that. You appear to be missing a "C" (choke/primer) terminal and one more "M" (magneto) terminal. You troubleshoot this using a hand held voltmeter available in the electrical dept of any home improvement store. If the two M terminals have no connections, or if only one has a connection the motor would run but would not shut off with the key. If you are having trouble starting the engine, it is because the choke/primer function is not working (pushing in on the key while cranking).

"A" Terminal: +12 volts with the key in the RUN position.
"B" Terminal: +12 volts with the key in ANY position
"C" Terminal: +12 volts with key in RUN or START and key PUSHED IN (choke/primer function)
"M" Terminals: These two terminals are checked with the OHM (resistance) function of your meter. Key OFF should show these two terminals connected (continuity). In the RUN position these two terminals should show OPEN (no continuity).

Thanks. We ordered a new switch and we had it running. The previous owners had wrong switch and lots of jumbled wires. About to post another question.
