I have a 75' Chrysler 55 hp that I suspect the ignition switch has went out on. Any way I can test it to see if this is truly the problem before I order a new switch?

Do you have an ohm meter? if you do not, you can pick one up really cheaply at Harbor Freight. To test the switch disconnect all wires now with the key off, there should be continuity ONLY between the two "M" terminals. With the key in the run position there should be continuity between the battery terminal and the "I" terminal. Push in the key in the run or start position and there should be continuity between the "B" terminal and the "C" (choke) terminal. With the key held in the start position there should be continuity between the battery and "S" terminal in addition to the "I" terminal.

Hot Wire It!

1. 12V to the ign sys from the Batt (at the eng?s wiring ID Bb or correct me).
2. 12V to the starter solenoid switch to crank it (as from switch) or 12V with booster cable to starter).
3. Bingo! Old School Tactic And It Ran. ?Please get this verified if you are not Old School?.

Some TV tuner spray in the switch might allow it to work, as with my 2nd thought to be bad switch. The tuner spray cleaned my seldom used switch and I has worked since.
