ignition switch will not turn with right key - press to choke type on mercontrol

Switch will not turn after sitting for three months...Liberal WD-40 squirt & 2 day wait didn't fix it - Right Key....and spare key used too....

How do I replace switch?...If that is the next step....Thanks - Fred

It is a bear to replace the switch. The old wiring is fragile and the insulation crumbles and falls off the wire when they are moved. It is VERY tight and crowded inside the control housing and Merc coated everything with a tar like waterproof coating. I would try an electrical contact cleaner and lubricant before attempting to replace the switch.

Fore Warned is Fore Armed....I'll stop at the Merc Pro SHop on my way to the Marina and see if it can be fixed on the 'float' or if it needs a haul out....

Pontoon - low hours...so no big thing, beside the floats & Engine have been waterborne for nearly three years....It may be time for all it needs to be checked....Fred

Before you go too far, turn the key over and try it. The key goes in upside down just as easy as right side up....except it wont turn.:redface:

I had to replace my push to choke switch and it was a piece of cake. Just had to remove the dash panel to gain access. I guess it would depend on your set up. You just need to know how many wires you have coming out of it. I think there 2, 4 & 6 terminal switches. I think mine was about $30 bucks.
