Ignition Switch?

My pontoon boat wouldn't start over the weekend so I bought a new battery because I've had problems with it going dead in the past so I figured that must be what it is. When I hooked it up, it sparked badly and when the cables made a connection the motor was trying to start when the key wasn't even in the ignition. Someone suggested maybe the ignition switch had gone bad and was not turning the motor off which caused the battery to die in the first place. Does that sound right?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Ignition Switch?

Boy thats interesting, the return spring in the ignition lock is stuck or broke.
They don't last like auto ignition switches.
It needs replacing, what a way to find out eh?, that woulda scared me.
