ignition upgrade/fuel

it seems like I have seen several things about ignition upgrades. What is the advantage of upgrading to electronic ignition.<br />Also, where do I find my fuel pump. The line coming from my gas tank to the fuel seperator is dry. I have a 91 Vip Vision with a mercruiser 3.0 and an Alpha one drive

the fuel pump is on the starboard side of the motor just above the oil pan it is a marine only part because of many saftey features it has<br /><br />the electronic is better because unless it fails it requires no upkeep other than cap and rotor the advance is also electronic and you dont have to worry weights and springs getting rusty<br /><br />i dont no what year they they stoped useing points are you sure you have them<br /><br /><br />tommays

I have a cap and rotor. I think I know where my fuel pump, but I don't think there are any wires going to it. That is why I questioned what I thought was the fuel pump.

Upgrading to electronic ignition is a must in my book. I did it recently and it makes a HUGE difference. For one you dont have to mess with points anymore. I found that even after using dwell meters to set the dwell, that it can get out of whack and really change how smooth the engine runs.<br /><br />If you don't know what dwell is, its another good reason to switch.

vip<br />On the 3.0 it is a mechanical pump no wires just a little arm that gets pumped from inside the motor <br /><br />

<br /><br /><br />you need to find the # on your motor something like 0C856559 its the only way you can get the correct parts the year really does not mean anything<br /><br />tommays
