1997 Chaparral with Volvo Penta 5.7 GL, SX drive...We just bought our first family boat and after playing around with a sticky shift controller, the boat will not start. The neutral switch in the middle seems stuck as it does not pop out nor can it be pushed in. Turning the ignition key on gives power to the gauges but does not turn the engine. Could it be a fuse? If so where would it be located? Would the shift controller need replacing or maybe just the shift cable? Any links to diagrams would be greatly appreciated!

The neutral switch in the middle seems stuck as it does not pop out nor can it be pushed in.

That button is for throttle only, has nothing to do with the engine cranking over or not. You have to have the shifter in neutral to operate the button, and if it is pushed in, then it should pop back out of throttle only when you move the shifter back to the neutral position.

As far as the engine not cranking, look at this thread. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=167035
