Re: im confused about control panel with fuses and lights

I'm no expert by any means, and I have not worked on a panel as old as that one but I have installed two new one recently and here is what I learned. There are usually more than one "bank" of switches on each pannel. What I mean to say is that there may be 4 or 5 switches grouped together that all feed from one positive lead wire. So, you may have several postitive leads that go to a 12 volt sorce. On mine, there are 8 switches and two total positive leads. There is only one negative lead. This is soley to run the lights on the pannel. All of the components that you run a positive wire to should be grounded at a remote location. I usually mount a quality mounting block someplace convenient to access and run all components to that block for grounding purposes. With this in mind, you will only have one ground wire on your pannel and a couple of leads that need to go to the battery or breaker. You will in turn have a a positive line coming from each switch going to the component which it is supposed to power. Clear as mud right!

What are the lights for? seriously,do they show when something is turned on and if a fuse has popped? this has red and green ones, with 3 voltmeters.whats the deal with all the lights, looks like a tree at the dragstrip lol.

Not realy sure why there are both read and green lights. All of mine have only red lights (on the switch its self) to indicate that it is on. Perhaps the other light comes on when the fuse is blown?
