I'm getting a free plywood boat, what am I getting myself into!!??!!??

Sometime this week a good friend is going to drop off a free boat. I don't know much about it, I was told that it was anywere from 11-13feet long. He says that its handmade (I thought all boats were handmade )<br />It has no trailer and I was told that two people can pick it up. He told me that he does not think its ever been in the water.<br /><br />Now,<br />What the hell am I getting here? I have no idea what to picture. Will I be able to put my 1987 8hp Mercury on it?<br /><br />Anyone have a picture of a plywood boat<br />Thanks for the help.<br /> ?????

There are many very good boats built from plywood. I don't believe you'll have any problem running an 8 HP on this boat. You do have to keep them painted, but that's no big deal if you do it regularly. I have a plywood semi-V built in 1969 and it's as sound as the day it was built. Of course, if it's in bad condition now, it's going to take some work to get it right. Sounds like it should be OK, though, from the description given.

A month or 2 ago there was a member posting for info about his new plywood boat. He had trouble getting the engine mounted at the right height.<br /><br />Well, he had posted a lot of real nice pictures. <br /><br />Does anyone remember who he was or the title of his post?

I think you got a Better Deal than the guy on the motor board that got a Free 1985 Bilgeliner Trophy, with No motor Or outdrive.......

enough of this bayliner bashing. <br />the only bad thing about bayliner was those sorry excuse for an outboard they put on them! (chrysler force).

A bigger whaler. <br /><br />I'm going to use it on a river that I always liked. But everytime I go on the river I hit rocks, so I won't take the whaler on the river. That what I'll use the plywood boat for.

Here are some pics of that wooden boat from a few months ago. I still have to put in the raised carpeted floor and I'll be finished. I did finally get it running good with the 9.5 hp. Had to raise it up another inch and change the angle to get the back of the boat to stop digging into the water so much. I got the boat today.<br /><br />Much better then I thought, it is nicer then the boat pictured. <br /><br />Its not homemade, It is from the 50's. With a closed in bow and a windsheald. Stock seats and floor Nothing has ever been added to it.<br /><br />It has never been in the water, NEVER!!! <br /><br />Its really a blast from the past, I never thought I'd own a boat older then both my parents .<br /><br />I have picts but don't know how to post them.<br /><br />Feeling pretty good today!!!!
