I'm lost???

I have a 74 formula 200 with a ford 302. Cant get it to stay running under 2000 rpm's from there up runs great. Any thoughts??? Rebuilt the carb which is a Holley 6317-1 Replaced the plugs changed the fuel filter tried new gas still nothing below 2000 Rpm's??? Sounds like it could be a fuel pump problem; loss of flow as the RPMs come down!

Does it act like it is rich? Does it smoke or leave black carbon residue floating on the water on the driveway? Look down the carb (not too closely. careful of flashback) and see if it looks wet with gasoline when you are under 2K rpm. If it is wet, it's a blown powervalve. If it is dry, I'd suspect a clogged low speed/idle circuit.<br /><br />Have you verified the timing?

Fuel pump is new presure test show 4lbs at cranking speed Yes it's wet no excessive smoke I'll have to check the carb over again I get back to ya and let ya know tommarow night Thanks for the feedback.

Hey neighbor - I would put my focus on the timing and the low speed circuits also. There is an old mechanics trick to clearing out the low circuit in a carb.... when the motor is running at 2000 rpm manually close the choke. This will create a vacuum and possible clear the low idle circuit passeges.<br /><br />Is this a recent problem or had the motor been running fine earlier in the season.<br /><br />Bob

Ran great last season. Already tried the choke trick. Timing is right. Cleaned carb and replaced gaskets. Ordered A new rebuild kit and carb doen't seem right. When it comes in i will let you all know if it fixed the problem.<br /><br />Roadragetrx<br /><br />P.S. thanks for the help...
