ok this was wierd and idk why this happened: I dissasembled my fuel pump to check it out and make sure all screens were clear etc.. well I put it back on without any problems. So i hook the boat to muffs and pump my buld to prime it. AND gas started to come out of my carburator. I guess that is a jet that extends in the middle of the carb down to the bowl...anyways, the gas was coming out of there. where the "jet" dissapears into the carburator/top of bowl. So i started her and she started up fine as she was running the gas stopped coming out of the carb. So i stopped her and no more gas came out. Pumped the bowl agian to see if gas would come out and no gas. Why did gas come out the first time? It was coming out w/ a steady flow then stopped after I ran her. Bulb stayed firm the hole time also. Can somebody please explain why this happend and if I need to fix something before I go on vacation with it this weekend??? Thanks guys!

I feel fairly certain that your float and needle weren't sealing off the gas. That's why when you pumped the bulb it overflowed and came out. Sounds like it stopped sticking open and closed off like it was supposed to.
Why did you decide to rebuild the pump?? I wouldn't think anyone would do that out of the clear blue. The reason I ask is because if you were having any strange troubles with it running before, it could be related to that float needle sticking.
Good luck,
JBJ

Thanks jb! Well see I have NEVER had this problem before. I just got done, from my lat post, running it constantly and it never leaked agian?? I guess mabey it did stick. Is this a commom problem not worth paying attention to? Like I said it was FLOWING out then stopped. So i guess whatever was causing it to leak seal. I have no idea. I am new to boating! So i shouldnt worry anymore??

I'd keep an eye on it, but I think the float stop sticking momentarily is probably a good bet, particularily since it ran fine.

If it were me, I'd pump up the primer again, see if it leaks. If it doesn't, then I'd take a look in the morning and see if anything changed ( fuel started leaking, etc ). Otherwise, I'd probably call it good, and if I was extra paranoid, I'd bring it to a local lake and give it a test run.

Refresh my memory--what motor is it?
If it's an old one you might find it helpful when you get a chance to see if it has a cork float and get a new kit with a plastic float and a new needle and seat that has the little clip that latches on to the float arm. As far as the problem with it overflowing carb. I agree with redfury. Just keep an eye on it and if it has a pressure tank I'd be sure and disconnect it so all your fuel doesn't run out if it sticks again. I won't say how I know this can happen.
And it sure ain't funny:(
Hope you have fun on your trip and it runs good for you.
Later,
JBJ
