Are there any need to know snags with putting in a impellar on these old non shifting motors? Does the power head need to be removed or just drop the leg and change? Thanks for any help.

On your 1957 JW-13, all you need to do, is remove the 4 lower unit bolts and gently wiggle it free from the midsection. Once that is done, you'll see the 10-24 screws securing the impeller housing. Remove those and you have the impeller ready to remove and replace. It is best to keep the drive shaft in place and slip the impeller off the top, because it is kind of tough to re-mesh the drive shaft to the pinion gear.

Wow that was about as easy as changing spark plugs! I did pull the driveshaft out and it gave me some grief putting it back in, but its good to go. Now time for some fresh lower oil.

Yea those are simple to change out. No shift rod to deal with. I had a 58 model, a couple years back. Got it all tuned up and running nice and traded it off. An older gentleman down in Newport wanted it. He needed a smaller motor so I helped him out. They're fun little motors to run.
