If the lower unit is out, shouldn't prop spin easily (i.e. not in gear) ? It does seem like the drive shaft is rubbing against water pump housing i.e. something is not centered.
Maybe my shift shaft problem will be solved when I straighten out the prop issue. The shift shaft is not lining up with the throttle linkage right now. If I had to I could probably connect it if I took out part #63 (Link and Pin Assy). This would allow me to move linkage backwards more to catch shift shaft. Right now I think that would be forcing the issue so I'll wait on that one.
