Im about how to change the impeller on my motor. Is there any helpful hints out there to make this a bit easier? Any hidden bolts, or is this pretty much straight forward. Should I be in neutral? Thanks for the help!!

On your engine inside the exhaust snout there may be a 6 inch long, 12 point bolt that passes through the lower unit and holds on the rear. This must be removed to drop the lower unit. Everything else is pretty much obvious. New impellers may be 6 vane instaed of the 10 vane you will probably find inside the water pump. 6 vane actually pump a slight bit more water so don't worry.

I saw that there were actually 2 bolts in that snout. Ill look for the one your talking about. I dont have to have it in forward gear?? An old engine I have a think required that. Hopefully it pumps water after this!!!!

In any case, the exhaust snout must be removed. There will either be the long bolt holding the snout and the rear of the lower unit or there will be a hidden bolt under the exhaust snout. You can have the engine in any gear: The linkage disconnects outside the midleg under the kingpin so it is easy to get to.

Thanks for your help Frank! Had it off in 10 minutes! The cover on the impeller is shot so I have to order a new 1. Thanks again.
