Impeller direction??

I have a 1978 mercruiser pre-alpha 120hp/140 and I'm changing the lower unit water intake impeller. I didn't keep track of which direction the impeller was in and now I don't know which way to put it in. First, is this a counter rotation motor? And if so, which way does the face of the curls go if looking down from the top of the motor. I looked in the manual and it says to turn the drive shaft clockwise to set the key into the impeller. Would I turn the drive shaft clockwise if I have a counter rotation motor? (That is, if I have a counter rotation motor.) Thanks

Trent is right on. Once the motor spins the shaft it will be the right way.

Re: Impeller direction??

do not set it in backwards that pump likes to break things there is really not that much room. that is why they say in the manual not to turn the shaft backwards. set the impeller on the shaft after setting all the gaskets in place. lube the cup with dishsoap, move the housing into place over the impeller. while turning the driveshaft clockwise push down on the housing and "voilia" its on. torque the fasteners and put it all back together.
good luck and keep posting

......so the counter rotation doesn't apply here? Or would the drive shaft have to be turned counter clockwise (if I have a counter rotation motor) to set the impeller? I don't want to sound redundant here but I feel I better get this right. Thanks guys.

What,+ WHY do you Think you have a right-handed Motor ??????????????

Your Motor is Standard CCW Rotation.............

Which means you install the Impeller, Just as stated in the Manual.........
Turn the Shaft Clockwise......
