impeller direction

please help. i have a mercruiser R sterndrive. i was going to install a water pump kit but when i removed the upper housing the impeller fell out when it cleared the shaft and now i do now i do not know which way to clock it in for instalation. thanks for any help.

Looking down at the pump, the impeller will turn clockwise

If you're putting a new impeller in, it doesn't really matter if you get it wrong. Once you start the engine, the blades will flip over to the right way...

The way I do it... Put the housing in your left hand. Then with your right hand, wind the impeller anti-clockwise as you push it into the housing. Using a VERY thin smear of grease in the housing helps.
