Just a "heads up" to everyone to keep an eye on their engine temps! I replaced the impeller on my engine mounted raw water pump back at the beginning of the summer. I started the engine yesterday on muffs and after running a few minutes checked the manifolds and risers. They were too hot to touch.
After doing a few checks, I decided to pull off the engine mounted raw water pump. Everything looked fine - here is a picture of the impeller I pulled out:
What I discovered is the inner metal tube had pulled away from the rubber impeller. Looks perfectly normal, but the rubber part has separated from the metal inner part.
I got a new impeller (in fact the local marina where I bought the last one replaced it at no charge with no hassle - good customer service!
), and will be re-installing soon. The only reason I bring this up is because I remember someone posting a similar situation only a few months ago. This was an OEM Quicksilver part (#47-59362T 1). I just wonder if they have a bad batch out there?
Anyway - if you have a similar set up, just something to keep in mind.
