I have a 2001 Larson 234 escape deck boat with a 5.7l gsi pefs engine
a year and a half ago I winterized the boat my first time by my self. I removed the two brass plugs on the back of the exhaust and the one on the side of the engine block
i also removed the two big hoses going to the impeller housing on the water pump. To drain water.

well now I am trying to get boat ready for the water....
put hoses and plugs back on. Started it and it started right up... so I turned it off till my ear muffs came in.

got the ear muffs in today and I hooked up the water hose to them and put them on the outdrive of my Volvo sx-m.

it ran at idle for a while just fine till my engine started beeping. I look and see a little steam and I’m confused. So I tried to figure it out and ended up shutting it off. Finding out the steam had to of come from the impeller housing area......

any idea what’s going on?

am I suppose to fill the hoses with water first after it’s been sitting for a while. I thought the impeller should be able to run dry for a few seconds till it draws water up from the muffs. Any ideas would be great..... I don’t wanna damage this newish motor I have in it

Many will disagree with me here. But in all the years I had a Volvo Penta with its engine driven pump...I only knew of one particular set of muffs that managed to get water taken up to any real effect by the pump. Plain and simple...usually you just need the boat in the water for them to be able to take water up from the drive...or you do what I used to do and many others...stick the water hose directly into the suction hose of the pump in the engine bay.

Alrighty hopefully that beeping didn’t indicate any sort of damage happening, I ordered a new impeller kit from Volvo just Incase the impeller and o ring got damage from the heat. Ima put it in a fishing pond/ lake tomorrow and see if it gets hot again I was wondering if that was the case

I also think you could be right because I removed the hoses and saw some water in them but it wasn’t very much at all... in the past the muffs were fine but then again the hoses were still full of water and so was pump.... but since it’s been sitting bone dry maybe it cans purge the system well enough
