I have a 99 Volvo Penta 5.7GSI with a crank driven impeller.
I recently replaced the impeller and noticed some water trickling off of the housing after I installed it. I did not have any water leaking prior to working on it.
The two plastic tubes coming off of the old housing had a little play, so I replaced the housing with a new solid brass housing. The trickling was still present. I went ahead and changed the spring loaded seal that mounts on to the shaft of the crank, but I still have water leaking out of the fail port on the bottom of the impeller housing.
I have no play in the shaft at all and there were no noticeable grooves in it either.
Now I am running the boat out of water with a hose hooked up to the rabbit ears on the outdrive. When I turn the hose on before I start the engine, the water is leaking from the fail port. Could the water pressure of the hose be causing this to leak?
Or if the belts aren't tight enough on the motor, could that cause any vibration that would cause that seal to fail?
Any other ideas??
I appreciate any help. Thanks.
