Impeller Output

I have a 79 Johnson 6hp as a kicker. I recently overhauled the lower unit and changed out the waterpump impeller (yes it is installed correctly ). <br />Is this engine supposed to give a light trickle out of the telltail when idling and a low strength stream when WOT? I'm used to a somewhat powerful stream at all times but I'm used to working with larger engines. I've checked for obvious blockage but have found none.<br />Is this stream normal or should I dismantle the whole thing and check the entire cooling system?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Nav

Is there a thermostat installed ?

I'm not sure if it has one. I'll go and double check just in case. I'm used to working on Honda's and Mercs so I'm new to Johnnyrudes.<br /><br />Nav

I removed the thermostat and it improved a little bit but its still not a very strong stream. I'll replace it today with a new one since the old one was covered in gunk. I guess I'll just pull the engine and give it a once over just in case. <br /><br />Does anyone make a solvent to clean the cooling system? The engine's newer been in salt water (Luckily) so there is no corrosion to deal with. <br /><br />Nav

Omc dealer has some in the form of a jub with gardnen hose adapters on both sides that hook in line with flush muff.It siphons solution from jug while water is running.Don't know first hand about water pump telltail pressure on that particular motor.On evinrude I have because water is nippled from engine jacket mine telltail runs less strong of stream with thermostat removed because the thermostat acts as flow resticter and keeps a bit more water squeeze on jackets.Ive heard cases where you don't get adequate cooling with thermostat and its components removed because of this.
