impeller pieces

i have a 1984 beechcraft 17 foot with a aq131a and a 270 outdrive the impeller on the boat i just bought had no fins on it after installing a new impeller it still did not suck up water after i felt the little hole at the bottom of the outdrive i found a piece there. so i assume that its clogged and so is the line can i just flush it out after i disconect it from the seapump or do i need to drop the lower part of the outdrive? if i do what do i re seal it with? thanks new here to the site thanks paul

Typically, the fins end up going downstream, But clearly not in your case. To flush the outdrive, I think you'd have to drop the lower gear assembly from the outdrive, giving you a clear path out the bottom of the pivot tube. Its not hard. You'll need the three orings that seal the lower to the intermediate assemblies.

post 13,14 have the orings necessary.

Did you find any fins in the strainer?
