A manual on your motor would be most helpfull. It is not difficult to replace or service the water pump but the manual will give you best directions.
To check if your charging system is working simply connect a multimeter on DC volts across the battery and start the motor you should see the voltage rise above the battery voltage as the rpm,s come up. If the battery is good you will see 14volts or better across the battery. If the battery is in doubt replace it with a known good one for the test. If you dont get a rise in volts then the charging circuit needs attention.
