Anyone know the average cost of an impeller replacement? Alpha One Gen II, 2001 5.0 Mercruiser. Not alot of hours, but it is 4 Years old now. Curious on what I can expect to pay a marine repair shop? Never did one, not sure I will have time come spring. Thanks.

Parts and labor $175. A good mechanic can complete the job in under 90 minutes.

Re: Impeller Replacement Costs

hello
90 min is a good estimate. on a good day with no help from salt or murphy I can shave it a bit. on a bad day with salt and murphy 4 to 7 hours
the 4 bolts that hold the hosing to the case are 6mm. give them four years of salt and all 4 break and will be drilled and helicoiled :)
thats just part of why I say do it at least every other year :)
good luck but 90 min labor plus the kit (about100) for the merc kit is very close

Re: Impeller Replacement Costs

Four years old? I would reccommend a complete pump replacement not just an impeller. Complete pump will cost you $100.30 from the shop. If the shop pulls the complete drive, then you have the cost of the gasket remount kit which will run another $5-6 bucks. Add a refill of gear oil, hopefully you didn't wait 4 years to change that. That's another $15-20. I would plan on 2 or less hours for labor but then I deal with salt water units and have seen the jobs last for most of the day. I would put the cost closer to $250. Now I'm sure someone will raise the claim that you can buy your parts cheaper yourself and that is true, but don't expect the shop to install them. That's kinda like taking your own steak to the restaurant and asking them to cook it. I worked on a fresh water unit once years ago, couldn't believe how easy it was. You guys up north have it made.
