Hello,
I just purchased a 1964 18HP johnson that is in need of repairs and a tune up. Previously I posted a topic on the replacement of the impeller on a 1964 5.5HP Johnson and was told that the powerhead would have to be removed. I am wondering if the same circumstances apply to replacing the impeller on this 18HP? Also plug/points info would be helpful! Gas/oil ratio is marked with a sticker by the fuel hookup as 50:1. Is this correct for the 18HP and also the 5.5HP? I have a 1963 5.5HP Evinrude that is 24:1 ratio. Thank you for your help!---Ownsbud56---P.S.--- When did they change the site?

Don't think you pull the powerhead on the 18. You would drop the lower unit to gain access to the pump. Others more familiar with this motor will chime in. As far as plugs and points, plugs are Champion J4C gapped at .030. Point gap is .020. 50:1 is correct for that motor as well as the 5.5 HP.. Site changed a few days ago....

both motors are 50-1. you drop the lower unit to change the impeller. if you don't have one get a manual. before.
