impeller replacement question

I have an 93 omc cobra hooked to a 5.0. It is not sucking up any cooling water. I have never worked on the impeller before and I am wondering if I can change that without pulling the boat out of the water. ie will it hurt anything to pull the assembly apart underwater? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Re: impeller replacement question

Well,

you should be able to....if it's not under water.

The housing is #67 in the following picture from Doug Russells site.

Just don't drop anything in the water......I'd pull the boat and do it on the trailer.. (I am somewhat a bit of a "butter-fingers type")

It can be done in the water but DON'T!! You need to be able to see and check for wear and if the impeller lost any pieces then you might have to go a hunting. Jerry
