I have no clue as to the number of hours on our '04 90 hp Johnson Ocean Pro but it has been run several times each summer .... mostly cruising, pulling skiers/tubers, and some fishing .... it still has the original impeller .... what is the life of such an impeller and would it be wise to have it replaced even though the motor runs cool and there hasn't been a hint of any impeller related issues

Re: impeller replacement

In my opinion the impeller should be replaced as part of normal maintaince. If you run in sandy or mud conditions the life of the impeller is shortened. Some people replace them when they have a cooling loss. I used to replace the impeller every couple of years when I lived on the gulf, didn't want to be caught off shore and have a cooling problem. I have seen people run the same impeller for 14-15 years, but I will not chance it. Other opinions will vary.

OK, So you have 8 years use on the impeller. I would change it. I replace mine ever 3 years or so, unless I get into some mud/sand, and then I replace it immediately. A water pressure gauge is a good idea, as it will give you an idea what normal pressure is.
