How do you change the impeller on a '95 25hp mariner?
And don't just say drop the lower unit and change it. Because that's the problem. I cant get the l/u off. It drops about 1/8 inch and something won't let it come off.
After that what do you do?

Do you drain the l/u oil?

Help would be appreciated.

first drain the oil.... then get a manual for your
motor. getting it off should be easy unless the
shaft is stuck in the powerhead, then it'll take
a lot of patience, time and wd40 to get off.
getting it back on properly is a bit more tricky
and this is where the manual will really help.
manuals for sale at bottom of this page and you
can usually find them at local lib. also.
good luck,
M.Y.

First, buy a manual best marine investment you will make.
2. If it dropped a little you probably got all the bolts out but did you disconnect the shift linkage? This is where you need a manual, I don't know that particular engine and every make, model, and hp are different. If the bolts are out, the shift linkage is disconnected, and the drive shaft isn't stuck in the crankshaft (it wouldn't have dropped if it was) it will fall down. Make sure it doesn't hit the floor or your feet.

Remove the top and bottom oil fill plugs (large slotted screws on the side of the lower unit) and drain the oil. Fill it from the bottom till it comes out the top, then screw in the top first then the bottom screws.

i was trying to avoid the manual. probably the only thing i'll ever use it for is the impeller.

I'm pretty sure you guys are right on the linkage not being disconnected and i have no idea where to disconnect it so i may have to buy the manual.

thanks for your prompt responses.

try the library.... but the $35 spent on a manual
is the best $ you can spend IMHO! a lot cheaper than
breaking something and taking it to the shop to
have them repair it.
good luck,
M.Y.

If the motor is one you plan on keeping, the manual will come in very handy sooner or later. Many questions can be quickly answered just by cracking the book. Best bux you can spend!

Ditto. Even if you don't do repairs yourself, the repair manual will tell you where things are, give you insight into what may have broken, how to do routine maintenance, what not to do, how to do repair if you get adventurous or get stuck somewhere. Must have equipment IMHO.
