1987 Johnny 88 SPL Impellor won't come off drive shaft. I think it is just tight with rust and sand but is there a special trick to get key off I'm not doing? Also I think when I unscrewed my shift rod out of housing the o-ring came off, If I turn lower unit over will all the lower unit oil come out.

Assuming you're replacing the impeller, place a old large screwdriver or tool of your choice against the impeller near the driveshaft, then belt it in one direction and then the other. That usually frees the impeller up.

Yes, with the shift rod removed or even if the shift rod is screwed back in, if that O ring is missing, oil will flow out if the unit is inverted.

Shift the lower into gear, take a 2 x4 and put between the prop and cav plate, a wise-grip and turn the impeller clock-wise on the locked shaft. This should release it from the wedge holding it.
