OK, I live in Wisconsin and my boat has been in the steel building for about 4 months and I now have the fever so bad that therapy is necessary.

I have bought a new to me, 25ft Cruisers and I have taken a great deal of time on the forum and bought what I think has been a good deal of equiptment in the winter months to have my rig outfitted the way I would like.

Now the big decision. WHAT SUNGLASSES SHOULD BE BOUGHT... :D Last year a pair of Oakleys found their way to davy jones's locker on the Mississippi, way to much money to sink to the muddy bottom. I have had Ray Ban Aviators, and liked them but they tend to dig holes in my nose. I had a pair of REVO's but those got stolen and the price of a pair is greater than my depth finder.

Seeing what you are doing is a key to safe boating. Looking good is an added bonus. What do you folks wear and why.....

Sound off... :D :D

Re: Important stuff

I have Bolle's in polorized for flats and other shallow stuff. RayBan Aviators for driveing and just going out to the island. And a pair of RayBan Generals in the wife's car when I ride with her. All have tethers on them. The Bolle's were over a hundred and the R/B's are neer a hundred a copy.
My solution to "the fever" is to sit in the boat with a rod, reel and sinker only and cast at the neighbors' cats!!! :D :D Haven't caught any yet.....

Maui Jim's are really great sunglasses. They have the proper UV protection for your eyes and since they have polycarbonate lenses they give a really crisp, sharp view for fishermen and golfers alike. They also have a lifetime guarantee like RayBan but to me far exceed them.

They sell for around $300 or less so I would suggest a strap. Oh yeah, they look really cool.

Re: Important stuff

only reason to spend big bucks on them is if you
are sight fishing, like reds in the flats...
I'm with crab, as ZZ Top says;"go get yourself
some cheap sunglasses"
I have lost every single pair of $200 sunglasses
I've ever owned, but never the cheapo's???

Re: Important stuff

I have like three of four pairs of sunglasses laying around and in various cars / boats. I used to get them for free and even hand them out to family and friends, but now I pay about $8.00 per pair. What kind? Uvex Bandits, in black frames and mirror lens. They are safety glasses. Everywhere I go, people compliment me on their style, as they are very cool looking. Since that is an opinion, check out www.uvex.com/bandit.html

These are also great for keeping the spray out of your eyes on the boat or the PWC. Also, I thought I had seen somewhere little floaties you can attach to sunglasses to make them float.

Ken

Re: Important stuff

Sunglasses are technology that alters the way your body naturally functions. It would be a good idea to procure sunglass technology that protects your body from that change. Whatever sunglasses you get, they should protect your eyeballs from all UV rays. I no longer wear sunglasses without full UV coatings.

I’ve noticed that the more I take out of my pocket to send on sunglasses, the better I take care of them. Cheap sunglasses got tossed/abused. Pricey ones don’t get the abuse and live inside a hard case when not used.

I like/own REVO sunglasses. The style sucks but nothing compares to the optics. Did I mention that nothing compares to the optics? Let me just put it this way…nothing compares to the optics.

REVO is now owned by Luxor, that giant Italian corp that makes almost all prescription eyeglass frames on the planet. REVO’s are not prescription. I think all the Luxor websites suck, but here it is:

http://www.revo.com/

If you go to the website, there is a photo of me on the splash page. :D

Re: Important stuff

Costa's are very good and maui jims are great too as mentioned but a little pricey like Oakleys. I bought some years ago that I really like called H2Optix.(do a google on 'em) they are made for the boater and give unbelieveable clarity on the water. They also float if dropped in the drink and come with a case and strap for about $80. The lenses are coated so water sheets off of them too. Buy on-line and save money.

Pointer
A little spendy but worth the research. I use hand me downs from Mrs Link as like everyone else I always loose them. About 60 bucks a pair.
http://www.zurichsunglass.com/

skiuseme

My brother and I took a five day trip in an 18 foot open bow Larson with a 150hp merc ob. Put in at Prairie du Chien and headed north to the cities.

We brought along a tent to sleep on the islands along the way, and a cooler for food a beverages. Stopped at all bars, bathed in the river every morning and made a ton of friends along the way... :)

Had a blast....

Be back next summer, 2005
