'In' button wiring

I've got a 1988 Chris Craft with an Alpha and a 4.3. There is a button on the dash that has a 'up' arrow, next to the up/down trim toggle. It's got a purple/white stripe wire connecting it to the up/down buttons' similarly colored wire (thru a 20 amp fuse). Now, my question is this, to what does the other side of this switch go? My lower unit will lower down to where it's almost at the bottom of it's travel, but still has about 2 inches of ram to go. I'm thinking that this button must be an 'in' button that pulls the drive down even lower, or in, and will make my dang boat plane. Any help? I looked around for any obvious wires to connect it to, and didn't find any. Is there maybe something less obvious?
Thanks to all!

Re: 'In' button wiring

That's to get the outdrive up high enough for the trailer. The normal uppy-downy buttons should traverse the outdrive from full down to about mid-up ... then the Trailer button will get it the rest of the way to full up. Keeps you from lifting the prop out of the water while yer cruising along. There should be a trim limit switch on the outdrive pivot (Left side) that tells it how far up to go.

Re: 'In' button wiring

hmm...there is still about 2" of ram left exposed, is this the full down position? The nose shoots right strait up when I give it the goods, not nice and level like I would expect (I just got the boat, so I don't know how it has behaved when it's 'right'). It doesn't have one of those bolt-on fin/anti cavitation plates. Would that be of assistance if the drive is all the way down?
My other boat is a V-drive, so trim and such are not an issue (just hope for deep water). I'm new to this stuff.
Thanks to all.
