Anybody have any suggestions for an in-dash mount water pressure gauge? Cheap insurance!!

Are most of you guys just running a T into the telltale line for this install? Thanks!!

on the 60 degree loopers from the mid 90's that I have run there is a port threaded into the head to run water pressure to a gauge...install a 1/8 npt with a 1/8th barb and you are good to go. I would think a t into the tell tail might give you a false reading... as the pressure would drop with the opening so close....

In general, try to find a port into the cooling system. If not, you can tee into the telltale, but that is not as accurate.

I went overkill on my rebuild. The original pisser fitting on the exhaust cover runs directly to the gauge. I put fittings on the top of each cylider head (cover - crossflow) and ran separate hoses and pisser fittings (made an extra hole next to the original). FWIW, the water gauge appears to read the same as it did when it was teed into the original single pisser line - supports the theory that pressure in the system is the same wherever you tap...

Dual pissers FTW!

Hahahaha, dual pissers!!!

Well guys, I have a V4 looper. I am not sure of any areas where it would be easy to add other than the telltale, but I am open to ideas.

There are threads in the tops of both heads, but I dont want to drill into them if I dont have to.

So what brand/model are you guys using for this application? I just want to be able to T it into my telltale line and run the wire/tubing up to the gauge.

That's what it shows, although with the motor off it sits at about 3 rather than 0. Might have frozen once to affect it - Bourdon tube style gauge probably, and got some water inside. I do remember this gauge always pegged at WOT, right from new. The non-0 rest setting is fairly recent, say the last 5 years or so.

Funny thing too, the speedo that I always thought was wildly optimistic, is within 1 MPH of GPS speed at an indicated 30-40.

Always good to know you are moving faster than you think, rather than slower! Those water pressure speedometers drive me nuts. Mine seems to be off 3-4MPH all across the board.

Likely the gauge had some water in it during winterizing, and it may have frozen. When that happens, the bladder freezes and bends the arm to the needle. Once that happens, your gauge will probably never read right. (as in does not zero out anymore.) also probably reads 3-4 lbs high on top end. I wind up replacing mine ever 4-5 years due to freezing...

And I wonder if the gauge was accurate to start with. What should WOT pressure be on loopers or x-flow V-4s?

Yes I am wondering this as well. It is my understanding that you should see 15-25 PSI at WOT with these engines.

my mid 90s V4 looper would deliver 25-26 psi.....at wot....it was always more than enough to keep the temps down in the 120's
