I am thinking about putting a depth finder in my Zodiac Pro II 470 (this hull is different than the Pro 470 hull or the Pro 9 man). Looking at the back of the boat there is not a lot of room to mount a transom mount transducer in a place that has smooth flow. I think it needs to go on the right side of the engine and between the drain port and where the trailer bunks land and the tie down strap path there are very few choices.

So I was thinking of putting it inside the hull. From the outside, there is a flat section a few inches wide on the hull centerline at the aft end of the boat. This seems like a good place to mount the transducer. However, the hull is a closed unit. Except for a small drain plug in the sump on the top and a drain plug at the bottom aft of the transom, there are no openings to the hull.

In oder to mount the transducer in the hull I would have to cut a hole in the top deck about 8 to 12 inches forward of the transom. I can close this up again with a deck plate and cover (and would still be able to get back into the hull if I need to).

I tried looking in the drain holes with a flash light, but I couldn't really see anything. IT appears that there is a clear area but I'm not sure.

Has anyone seen the inside of one of these hulls and can tell me what to watch out for?

Is this something I should even attempt or am I asking for trouble?

Thanks.
