I have a 1988 Mercurser 3.0L with an Alpha 1 drive.

I am looking for the SHIFT INTERRUPTER or CUT OUT SWITCH p/n 39670A28. This sits on the rocker cover and disables the starting (coil?) circuit if trying to start the engine while in gear.

Mercruser parts as well as Mercury parts express both do not stock this part any longer. It is obsolete.

Anyone out there know of a replacement part number? Thanks in advance.

The part refers to a service bulletin (02-01).

I think the new number is 87-814281A5 if you have a stamped steel rocker cover or 87-19752A3 is you have a cast aluminium cover, but PLEASE check this number first.

Chris............

The replacement is the entire shift plate assembly, switch, arm, lever, the works. Just went through that recently.

Its not a high failure item. Re-confirm that the switch isn't working. With engine running, depress plunger, it engine dies, its working fine.
