I have a Mercury Alpha One drive.

I am looking for and would like to purchase a new or used working Trim POSITION sender unit. This is the older (NON-Hydraulic) type with the wire leads separately terminating with a screw and ring terminal inside the sender unit.

The new style has internal wire leads that are integrated into the sender unit for insulation purposes.

If it makes any difference, the reason I want to change only the sender is that the drive needs to be separated from the Gimbal / Transom in order to replace the wire leads because the wire retainer can't be reached otherwise. The wire leads are in great shape and will last through the summer.

I only have one day a week to either work on my boat or put it in the water. I have spent the past two months getting it into shape and don't want to loose another couple of weekends figuring out how to pull off and replace the drive. I'll take the time needed this winter to install the two (limit & position) new sender units.

Any offer would be great, thanks,

jfb

Try mercstuff.com. I bought mine there for my Merc Alpha One and very satisfied.

Re: in search of Trim Position sender unit

Thanks for the info. My concern is not getting the new parts but the installing of them.

In looking through the manual, it seems that the drive needs to be removed in order to run the wires. I don't mind doing the work, the problem is the time I have available. With only one day a week to work on the boat it looks like it will take several weeks to get it complete.

The right thing to do is to do it right the first time. This I will do during the long winter months up here in Maine.

Thanks, jfb

JFB: Here's an eBay auction for both the trim limit and send switches, you can end immediately for $72.30. With the limited time available, and the probability that a complication will arise, I would buy the item (if you really want ot replace) and do the repair at season's end.

There are a lot of us out there (myself included) who don't want to wrestle with the drive, just to run the wires. If you check this forum, you'll find the majority of us who experienced trim switch failure have just gone without and learned to trim by ear and feel. I'm going on four years. Here's the eBay auction or check out a search using "mercruiser, trim"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2484997617&category=26455
