I have a Mercruser 3.0L with an Alpha 1 drive.

I am looking for the trim position sender unit. The wires are not needed. I would like a new one but will gladly purchase a working used one.

According to the Mercruser parts website this part is no longer available. All they offer is a dummy non working one.

Anyone with information on where to purchase or has an extra to sell please reply.

Thanks for your time.

Re: in search of trim sender unit

I might have one on a old formula 1 hull I am savaging. I just took a wiring harness out of it today. I will have to go back to my father in laws to look and see if it has one. Most liekly it does. Are you needing the whole hydralic sending unit?

Mercury,
Perhaps I don't understand but there isn't any hydraulic's involved with this sending unit. This is located on the starbord side of (I think it's called) the Gimbal ring.
This unit sends the trim position location to the trim guage. It's adjustable by rotating the unit counter / clockwise.
Does this make any sense? Thanks.

Yes there is two types. I will see what is on the fornula one. The one one my chapparal is a hydralic unit. it has a cylinder that floats inside to shift the sending unit. I am thinking the one on the formula one might be comletly electronic becuase I was looking at the trim pump and didn't notice a line going to the sending unit. I will just have to look.

Hi all,

The older system used the hydraulic sender. They stopped using that one in about 1977. That's when they changed to senders mounted on the gimbal ring.

The sender kit number is -805320A1 and is available from Mercruiserparts.com. You can't buy the senders without the wiring.

Chris.............

I wasn't aware of a second type. But there is no line going from the trim pump to the position sender unit. There is two wires (not needed here) going from the sending unit to the dash (gauge).

When you get a chance to look if you would please let me know what you have and I'm sure we can work something out.

Thanks again.
