Anyone have a recommended source for this piston that is in stock? I guess I could also settle for a good after-market one if I have to.

Also the powerhead bottom gasket 27-43007 5 seems to be hard to come by.

Wanted to finish a rebuild next week...

Thanks,

I saw the GLM piston from another source, at a higher price - so the Amazon is a good find. The finish on the picture doesn't look like the OEM piston which concerned me. Maybe the picture is misleading. Does anyone have experience with GLM pistons?

Pretty sure Mallory, Sierra and GLM are all made by the same contractor. Ive used all three in different builds and there is no difference other than the box they come in.

Not sure I'd trust ANY GLM product.... Would be worth looking at THESE

achris, thanks for the link. I read a forum post (can't seem to find the link now screem and fly or something like that) that basically advocated using a cast piston like the OEM piston vs. a forged piston (wiseco). The rational was that forged pistons expand more so there has to be more clearance (I'm not planning on boring - just removing the aluminum and breaking the glaze) and you have to be more careful during break in and in warming up the engine afterwards. The consesus, was unless you are going for performance (rev over 7000) cast pistons are better especially for recreationl use. Given that my failure looks to be a cold seize I *really* want to stay away from a piston that expands more. They also apparently rattle around more when cold, of course.

Sierra pistons are made in South America and the Mallory & Red Rhino are repackaged WSM pistons and GLM (good luck marine) is made in india and I will not use them, the castings are nasty. Since your not planning on boring use the Wiseco as they like a sloppy cylinder. Just break-in engine several heat cycles to temper them up and you will be good to go. I only rebuild my customers with WSM or Vertex pistons.

Thanks to everyone for their help! Fazt - I'll file the information on aftermarket pistons away for future reference.

I found an in stock quicksliver piston at marinepowerservice.com - just piston and pin - a little pricy but it will match the other two I'm not replacing.
