I am renovating a Avro(aluminum)/Richardson the old motors were badly seized to I bought 2 Chrysler fury 318 to replace them I had them rebuilt and installed. My problem is that the motors are reversed LH in RH spot and visa versa. I have no recourse on the person who put them in I have moved. question does this make any difference:

Re: Inboard motors reversed

Not a twin expert but the main reason for counter rotation is to reduce the the effects of rotation torque.
This should work.
The affects of prop technology may be different.
Run them and see what happens

Re: Inboard motors reversed

other things that have been told to me is about cavitation i do not know what this is or what it means. I have asked else where and I have been told scary stories about the props being hurt. but other stories that it will work but don't take it far from land. and others saying there are boats that are rigged that way. my problem is that I have rebuilt this boat from scratch and I am scared to waste more money My web page till 2011 http://www.eagle.ca/~moiranic/barry/index.html

Re: Inboard motors reversed

it shouldnt take too long to pull the motors and put them in the right holes assuming you have access above thru the floor/deck

Re: Inboard motors reversed

first thing is don't worry. It will run fine.
second thing first. Are you sure it's wrong. The terminology is often wrong.

normal set up is the port engine is the standard rotation AKA left hand turn ( looking from rear) this set up could be on the starboard side
Normal set up is the starboard engine is the right hand clock wise engine reverse turn. It will work fine on the port side.

The real place for a problem is the transmissions. the front pump must be set to the rotation of the engine in front of it. Plus the output cannot be changed on most older units. relax and go boating.

If the rotation is wrong just swap them side to side and have fun.
