Re: Inboard Need to Change Transmission Oil
Howdy,
Well, you didn't say what you have. Ski Brendella could be using any sort of engine and drive (Brendella doesn't manufacture their own engines and transmissions and I think PCM is a company that marinizes engines and uses Velvet or other drives). Make it easier for us to help you by,
#1 reading the ADULTS ONLY thread above, and
#2 tell us what you have (which #1 tells you to do in so many words.)
I'm surprised that there hasn't been a bunch of people jump on this. Oil threads usually result in a whole lot of "I have used XYZ oil all my life and it didn't hurt anything"
Maybe they haven't here because it's not an engine or a stern drive.
Most of the marine transmissions use some form of light oil like 10w, 20w or ATF like Dextron III, Mercon, Type F or other auto-trans oil.
Velvet uses ATF as does ZF in many of their transmissions.
Here's what Borg-Warner suggests in following Velvet manual,
http://www.velvetdrive.com/techinfo/liberty/libertyowners.pdf
Type of Transmission Fluid
Dexron III or any transmission fluid which meets
Detroit Diesel Allison C4 or Caterpillar TO-4 specification
is recommended.
Do not mix different brands or types of transmission
fluid.
If transmission fluid temperature exceeds 190?F, the
fluid must be changed.
Bottom line. READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL.....and put in it what they suggest.
If they suggest 20W20, then go to NAPA and get 20W20. It doesn't really matter what brand.....(Napa doesn't have any refineries)
If it is in fact a Velvet drive, Go to
http://www.velvetdrive.com/ and contact them if you don't see your model indicated. Their site indicates using ATF in most or all of their drives...
Cheers,
Rick
