Hi all, i just found this board and it seems to be the most informative site ever. Well, i just purchased a pair of 88 200hp evinrude outboards. they were recently rebuilt and have the rebuild metal stamps on them as well. the only thing is that theres no wires or controls. Im not sure where i should buy the parts and the technical names for the parts. Is it a "harness" that connects to the inside of the engine? and does the harness connect to the gauges? Im also concerned about the controls. I have 2 sets of morse controls and id like to use those in some kind of conversion kit for outboards. Any suggestions would be great. thanks

chris j p,

Welcome!

Typically, outboards have a "harnress" as you describe. It will hook up to the engine (bolt on and plug in) and will ususally be connected to a specific control box. The John/Rude boxes have provisions to plug in a tachometer harness. The other guages would be wired seperately.

Control boxes and harnesses are not hard top come by. I see them all the time on e-bay.

Many are also available, right here on iboats. The iboats staff can help you figure out what you need.

http://www.iboats.com/boatproducts/mallsearch/controls/
