Re: Inconsiderate PWC People

I've had people in boats do it. Usually wakeboard boats that were not paying attention or just could have cared less. Thats why I try to do my fishing in the morning and be off of the water by noon, when the knuckleheads are coming out. Sometimes though I like to do some evening fishin' and the worst offenders are out at the same time. Very miserable.

Re: Inconsiderate PWC People

Jetfleas endanger my fishing hole, skiboats endanger my boat's ability to remain above the waterline. I try to get to the lake before sun-up and split before noon, that way we stay out of each other's hair. I'm usually out of Twinkies and Doritos by then anyway.

spots

I think there are a few , "Just plain A*Z Holes"! But I think that for the most part, knowone ever taught them to be conciderate to others, (Its a lost art) and they dont think they are doing anything wrong.

Growing up I was taught that you never planed past a fisherman, you always stopped the boat and Idled past them and then took off again. I dont do that either, you would get run over by someone behind you if you did that now days. I do however cut them as wide a path as I can.

Guess I'm not alone. It amazes me how ignorant or just obvlious people can be. What happened to the stay clear of fishing boats US Power Squadron taught me?

Oh well thanks for the posts.

Re: Inconsiderate PWC People

I have a big problem with PWC's. No, thats not true. I guess my problem is with PWC operators (and their parents). Seems like most of the time they are 12 year old kids riding water vehicles that can probably go 60 mph plus. Operating at high speeds to close to other boaters seems to be the norm. It's makes it dificult to enjoy a day out fishing with my kids, continualy having to worry about getting T-Boned by a PWC.

Re: Inconsiderate PWC People

I saw a pwc operator fire up his motor without venting his engine compartment first. We were at the top of the ramp securing our boat and he was launching and his truck/trailer was below our line of sight down the ramp. When the jetflea blew it launched him so high that we could see him over the top of the ramp! About 25 feet! Fortunatly, he landed in the water and was wearing a pfd. His bonehead teenage friends drug him halfway up the ramp before we stopped them and told them to lay him dowm. One of them said "somebody call his mother" and one of the girls in their posse responded "Don't call his mom, she'll freak out!" It was all I could do not to chunk riprap at her. A few minutes later the Game and Fish showed up (they heard the explosion 5 miles away) with an ambulance in tow and carried captian combustion chamber to the ER. I never knew how he turned out. Hope he was ok.

The level of inexperience and bad decisions they demonstrated reinforced my decision to keep my daughters locked in their rooms until they're thirty.

I also learned that day that Hollywood sound effect guys have never heard a real explosion. Sounds more like POOM! than what they portray.

spots

I was fishing a hump about 100yds from shore one time and this pair of jetfleas in their late fifty with grey hair kept circling me running over the hump repeatedly. I also have had many bigger pleasure boats running between me and the bank. What really pissing me off is that it normally the same SOB that was running back and forth between me and the bank.

Over the last couple of years, I've had more issues with pontoon boat operators. Besides cutting between shore, they also feel that they "own" the channel, because they are in the bigger boat. Also have had more occurances of the 5mph is not for them. As already stated, it is not the boat, but the operator, and on our lake, there are more pontoon boats than any other type.

The worst of both worlds. Last summer I was out with two of my daughters and one of their friends when a pontoon boat with four PWC's in tow parked about 100 yards away from us. Chaos ensued, so much for the fishing.

But I think that for the most part, knowone ever taught them to be conciderate to others, (Its a lost art) and they dont think they are doing anything wrong.
