Hi folks,<br /><br />Am I right to say by increasing the pitch of a prop it will turn in better fuel economy and higher top speed ? <br /><br />Smokey

Not if it pushes the wot rpm down to where the engine is lugging and incurring excessive strain.<br /><br />It will give you better top end, to a point. After that, it starts to slow you down because the excessive load is slowing down the motor.

Thanks Roscoe,<br /><br />See now my engine is at its max. 5250 - RPM - WOT and the sugg. max is 5250 - so since the specs are 4750 - 5250 - I believe that I have some gap to play by going down a bit like may be 200-RPM<br /><br />Smokey

It's usually recommended to keep rpm at the upper range. Sounds like you have it perfect.<br />Holeshot, if that's important, would probably be effected w/ more pitch.

Normally, you can get one or the other, but not both.

You could pitch up a couple of inches. Each inch more of pitch reduces your rpms by 200. You will have a slower take off, but a higher top end. Your cruising speed will go up some(around 2 mph)for the same rpm. However, if you load your boat up with extra gear and people, you will want your old prop on.

If your current set up is terrible it may be possible to get both. <br /><br />Tell us more about your rig starting with what motor you have.
