I have and Indmar 351 5.7l v8 direct drive (1991), while crusing at 25 mph I heard a bang then about 2 seconds of a loud griding noise! I made it back to dock at tickover but there is a vibration in the boat that was not there before and a griding noise coming from the engine bay, The water was deep and I didn't see anything in the water, I pulled the boat out of the water and the brass prop and bottom of the boat looks fine (it also rev's fine out of gear, no vibration), do you think I hit something? and any ideas of what is grinding?

Cheers
Ross

it can only be the trans or the coupling plate on the flywheel

i dont no how yours is connected but on a correct craft the plate on the flywheel has springs between it that fail and make a pretty nasty noise

how does your trany fluid look ???

tommays

Just spoke the the shop and they said the coupling was loose?, they say they pulled it back and tightened it and all is ok now, would a loose coupling cause such a vibration and noise?

cheers
ross
