Indoor/Outdoor VS. Marine Grade?

Hey guys,
Replacing the rotten floor in my '89 Bay liner Cobra. Is there a big difference between the normal indoor/outdoor carpeting and the marine grade stuff? Other than price? I'm not a cheapskate by nature, but this project is on a tight budget and I'm trying to shave the cost down......
Thanks!

Ever heard of the old saying"You get what you pay for"? It's pretty much true, and sometimes you don't get as much as you pay for.

Marine grade is definitly better, but indoor/outdoor will do. The ol' in/out won't be as nice or plush and it won't last as long and you'll have to replace it sooner, but by then maybe you'll be able to save up enough to buy the good stuff... or even go with a deck finish that won't absorb and retain moisture/water and your boat will be happier and live longer.

I personally would go with a water shedding finish instead of carpet, no matter the cost. Textured gel coat or maybe Durabak, and a snap in carpet that can be taken out to dry.

OK. Thanks. I assumed marine was better, just wasn't sure if it was "3 times the price" better. This was a free boat that I'm trying to fix up into a simple fishing rig for my kids and me. If its truly that much better/ longer lasting, I don't have an issue spending the money, either.... ;)

You didn't say fishing in your first post, you said '89 Bayliner Cobra.

You can put anything you want in a fishing boat, but hooks come out of marine grade carpet easier.

For a fishing boat I think I would stay away from the carpet as well. It can collect moisture which can cause rot. I am in the process of replacing my deck, stringers, and transom and will probably go with something like AWLGRIP. I have heard that you can add silica sand to the last coat of paint for a nice no slip surface. Not sure if that works for gelcoat if thats the route you end up going.

If your buying carpet make sure it is "OPEN LOOP",..................Hooks don't get snagged in open loop carpet,...
