Hi to all,

I read the post by frostman, "Garmin versus other brands" but it sounded like his inquiry was for something higher end than what I'm looking for.

I have a 14' flat and fish the bayous of southeast Louisiana, most not very deep. I'm in the market for a depthfinder/fishfinder for about $125 or less. I would appreciate input from anyone who has owned/used one and what they thought of it.

I looked thru the iboats brands and they sure have alot in the price range, rather confusing actually. This is why I have chosen this forumn for input.

I noticed they sometimes list some with the same name/number but add sonar to it?? Not sure whats that's about.

Thanks in advance,
Beck

Beck, I've read alot of post about people bashing H'birds. Thats what I've got, plain jane, no bells and whistles, just tells me depth and I watch the little fishes swim by. I do about like you do just small lakes and back waters. It will also let me know status of battery.

Howdy, Beck.

With sonar, you usually get what you pay for.

For entry level units I strongly favor Eagle brand from Lowrance. I have used several and never had a loser.

iboats has a good selection of sonars at http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi?keywords=electronic

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the reply guys,

I checked out alot of them on iboats and will also shop around town.

Yesterday while working on my boat, made another compartment for trolling motor battery, I noticed where I had 2 cracks welded on the bottle the hull split about 1/2" parallel to the weld. This time I will patch with a bandaid type patch. I have a third split patched that way and it's still holding.

Beck
