There is an inflation chamber inside the boat, under the floor boards. It inflates to force the bottom of the boat out into a Keel Configuration. this aids in directional stability while the vessel is underway. The chamber in question is almost the length of the interior open area of the boat.
I find that it is easier to inflate the keel after the boat is in the water. I also have a Mariner 4.
